My recent road trip…

My recent road trip
By Andrew.

I recently travelled to Nairobi City- the business hub and capital of Kenya on a Saturday afternoon after a long working week that characterized satisfaction on one part and dissatisfaction on the other part pertaining to clients expectations and of course the bosses……..someone once said that there are only two rules at the work place. Rule number one…..the boss is always right……..rule number two…..if the boss is wrong refer to rule number one! Hahaha…..does it ring a bell to you? Anyway that is a story for another day.

My journey usually takes three hours on average. This basically means three hours of boredom, maybe uncomfortable sleeping, occasional glances through the windows, hitting your bottom hard on the seat after the driver fails to slow down at some bump, harsh exchanges between the public service vehicle staff and disgruntled passengers and of course at times having to endure mechanical issues and overloaded rides.

A close friend of mine once told me of his Chinese experience when he landed at Guangzhou. He told me of how the roads were sleek and near perfect, how traffic rules were obeyed to the latter and how quality the road experience is on the other side of the world. Back to my trip.
I started my journey at around 2.00 pm East African time, my good friend in Poland told me that we only have a one hour difference so by their standard timing it was 1.00 pm. My China friend of course has to go backwards close to six hours…..that is the paradoxical notation of life, it is always full of surprises and new experiences.

We passed several curves, bumps (both steep and gentle) sometimes grinding to abrupt halts and sharp corner negotiations in the name evading potholes. With all these challenges however, I should not fail to point out that the stakeholders concerned are on the ground in several places reconstructing and structuring afresh new roads for ease of transportation and accessibility. Three hours down the line I reached Nairobi and of course one of the striking differences between Nairobi and where I had travelled from was traffic lights……red, green and amber.

With a sigh of relief my journey finally came to a safe conclusion and I hoped out of the “matatu” and took a relaxed walk to my destination.

As I was relaxing later on and reflecting on the challenges of life and how they should make me better I somehow found answers on a wall hanging that I rarely paid attention to:

It said:

The road to success is not straight
With a curve called failure
A loop called confusion
Steep bumps called friends
Red lights called enemies
Caution lights called family
Flats called jobs
But with a space called determination
An engine called perseverance
Insurance called faith
And a driver called Jesus
You will make it to a place called success…
May success be your portion all my followers right from Kenya to Poland, China, the U.S, South Africa, Canada etc.
